How to Remember to Take Your Medication
I come from a family where you would want to take as good care of yourself as possible, and for that reason I have actually started this blog – to help people get access to latest medical equipment that help with them in improving their health.
When your doctor prescribes something for you, it is obvious that it won’t do any good for you unless you remember to take the pills like prescribed. This though can be almost impossible for most since they keep forgetting what they need to take and when.
There are simple solutions for this that have been designed especially for this, but if you aren’t going to invest in an automatic pill dispenser, which can practically save your life by the way, then I will give you a few tips on how you can remember to take your medication on a regular basis.
Keep in mind that these advice aren’t only great for your prescription medication, but also if you use any natural health supplements, and are trying to prevent any long term illnesses from occuring. Using an electronic dispenser, once again will be great for those also, but they can be expensive. First of all you normally have a lot of medication that needs to be taken once a day in the morning – most of the pills are like this.
Well what do you do every day in the morning? You eat breakfast, and for that reason you should keep your morning pills right in the middle of the table at which you eat your breakfast – it is quite easy to remember to take them when you see them every morning. What most people do is the hide their pills in a cabinet and never remember to take them! I got this idea from a memory improving book that was written by a Danish (?) young student who learned how to improve his memory for exams.
This book is called Memo: The Easiest Way to Improve Your Memory and it has tons of advice on how you can remember everything from everyday stuff like taking the letters to the postal office, to memorizing a deck of cards in a few minutes. So the morning pills are quite easy and if you don’t eat a regular breakfast you just have to connect them to something else that you do every morning – like going to the toilet.
You could place the pills in front of the toilet seat, and every time you sit down in the morning you will remember to take the pills. What I find to be the hardest is the mid-afternoon medication since we are usually on the run at this time. You could be at work or any place else, and there isn’t necessarily anything regular that you do during the day. Also with doctor prescribed drugs it is important to take them at the correct time, so it can be quite difficult. What I would do is take the time of day when you need to take the pills, for example 1 pm.
Then try to figure out something personal about those numbers that I could link to the numbers and the pills. One thing that I could do is close my eyes and think about 1 P M - One Pill for Me. I would visualize an animation where 1 P M would convert in to a tablet and would go in my mouth. Then when I see the clock strike 1 pm, I would immediately see myself taking a pill. I really suggest you to read Memo if you have any problems remembering anything, since it gave me so much good stuff to use during my everyday life.
